Total inorganic carbon was first measured coulometrically using a UIC 5017 CO2 coulometer coupled with an AutoMate automated carbonate preparation device. Approximately 15 mg of sample was weighed into septum top tubes and placed into the AutoMate carousel. A double needle assembly was used to purge the sample vial of atmospheric gas using CO2-free nitrogen carrier gas. Acid was then injected into the sample vial and evolved CO2 was carried through a silver nitrate scrubber to the coulometer where total C as CO2 is measured.; Data Quality Method: Pure CaCO3 standards and blanks were run every 17 samples. asNeeded Metadata are developed, maintained and distributed by NCEI.
