The sampling strategy used in this data collection was a two-pronged approach and included a random sample drawn from all registered boaters in Broward, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach Counties, and an opportunistic sample that was obtained through collaboration with multiple partners and stakeholder entities. The survey instrument began with a short introductory video about the survey and how the results will be used. Several broad categories of data were obtained from the survey including a) expenses related to snorkeling and/or diving on Southeast Florida reefs during the past twelve months, b) dive/snorkel trip characteristics, c) past and future behavior patterns related to dive/snorkel trips, and d) limited demographic information. The data file contains data from 1,148 respondents on 133 variables measured in the survey instrument. These data were collected to support phase 1 of the project, Economic Value of Ecosystem Services for Recreation-Tourism on the Reefs of Southeast Florida.
