The streamflow measurements\nwere made to obtain data on ground-water/surface-water interaction.  Flow\nwas observed visually to be zero, was measured, or was estimated at 147 sites.\nThe measurements were made on the main stem of the Republican River and all\nflowing tributaries that enter the Republican River between Muddy Creek in\nwestern Hitchcock County and Deer Creek in western Furnas County, Nebraska.\nTributaries were followed upstream until the first road crossing where zero\nflow was encountered. For selected streams, points of zero flow upstream of the\nfirst zero flow site also were checked.\nStreamflow gain or loss for each stream reach was calculated by\nsubtracting the streamflow values measured at the upstream end of\nthe reach and values for contributing tributaries from the\ndownstream value.  The data obtained reflected base-flow conditions\nsuitable for estimating streamflow gains and losses for\nstream reaches between sites.\nThis digital data set was created by manually splitting the lines\nfrom a 1:250,000 hydrography data set (Soenksen and others, 1999) at\nevery streamflow measurement site.
