These data were compiled to predict the impact of different proposed alternatives for Glen Canyon Dam operations on sand resources, including sand mass balance, sandbar volume, and frequency/duration of controlled floods (High Flow Experiments, or HFEs). These data were created for operations at Glen Canyon Dam for January 2027 through December 2060. These data were created by the U.S. Geological Survey, Southwest Biological Science Center, Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center using numerical modeling methods. This revision was completed in June 2026 to evaluate an additional operational strategy, called the preferred alternative, under 400 possible hydrological futures considered within the published modeling results for eight previously considered operational strategies.", "distribution": [{"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5066/P1QOIQRD", "description": "Landing page for access to the data", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "application/http", "title": "Digital Data"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "description": "The metadata original format", "downloadURL": "https://data.usgs.gov/datacatalog/metadata/USGS.6938a428d4be02077d5298c1.xml", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "text/xml", "title": "Original Metadata"}], "identifier": "http://datainventory.doi.gov/id/dataset/USGS_6938a428d4be02077d5298c1", "keyword": ["Arizona", "Colorado River", "Glen Canyon", "Grand Canyon", "Marble Canyon", "USGS:6938a428d4be02077d5298c1", "business and economics", "dam", "data release", "economy", "eddy", "fluvial", "freshwater ecosystems", "geomorphology", "inland fishery resources", "inlandWaters", "management", "recreation", "recreational fishery resources", "reservoir", "river", "river systems", "sand", "sandbar"], "modified": "2026-07-21T00:00:00Z", "publisher": {"@type": "org:Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey"}, "spatial": "-114.0200, 35.7400, -110.8400, 37.2200", "theme": ["geospatial"], "title": "Modeled sand transport, sandbar volumes, and reservoir operations for the Colorado River in Grand Canyon in support of resource impact analysis for Post-2026 reservoir operational alternatives (ver. 2.0, July 2026)"}
