Block groups that can be accessed in 45 minutes or less from the origin block group are considered accessible. Indicators reflect public transit service in December 2012 and employment/worker counts in 2010. Coverage is limited to census block groups within metropolitan regions served by transit agencies who share their service data in a standardized format called GTFS. An employer or business may use this data to identify neighborhoods that have high transit accessibility to the regional population or workforce. In other words, it may use the data to identify locations that are easy to reach via transit for the greatest possible number of residents or potential workers. Such information can be valuable to facility siting decisions. Similarly this data can be used to identify residential locations that have high accessibility to jobs by transit.
