The data are transmitted to AOML/NOAA in real-time and submitted to a quality control procedure developed at AOML. The dataset submitted to NCEI for distribution constitutes the complete dataset received by AOML with the corresponding flags after quality control. The measured variables or parameters include sea surface salinity, sea surface water temperature (using internal sensor), latitude, longitude and time. The originator's data have different temporal resolutions from 6 second point values to 5 minute point values. To help provide a foundation for understanding long-term changes in marine climate, and to provide essential input to climate and weather forecast models.
