The municipalities are\ndissolved into their associated counties.</b></p>\n\n<p>This feature layer includes US Census Federal Information\nProcessing Standards (FIPS) codes that are associated with each municipality.\nThis was included based on information from\u00a0<a href='https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/geography/technical-documentation/county-changes/2020.html' rel='nofollow ugc'>Connecticut\nCounty to County Subdivision Crosswalk</a>\u00a0from the US Census.</p>\n\n<p>The 9 Planning Regions in Connecticut have replaced the\ncounties for statistical and administrative functions, so these 8 counties are\nused only in legacy geography.</p>\n\n<p>Connecticut\u2019s 9 planning regions provide a geographic\nframework within which municipalities can jointly address common interests and\ncoordinate such interests with state plans and programs.\u00a0 CGS\nSection\u00a0<a href='https://www.cga.ct.gov/current/pub/chap_295.htm#sec_16a-4a' rel='nofollow ugc'>16a-4a</a>\u00a0authorizes\nthe Secretary of the Office of Policy and Management (OPM) to designate or\nredesignate the boundaries of logical planning regions.
