The purpose of this investigation was to determine the interaction\n\t\t\t\t(if any) between exogenous 25% albumin administration (100 ml given over\n\t\t\t\t< 30 min) and calcium concentrations in patients, all but one of whom were in\n\t\t\t\tan intensive care unit.\n        \n        \n          Results:\n          There were no significant differences in the ionized calcium\n\t\t\t\tconcentrations obtained before, at the end and 6 h after the administration of\n\t\t\t\talbumin (1.09 \u00b1 0.23, 1.06 \u00b1 0.22, 1.06 \u00b1 0.21 mmol/l,\n\t\t\t\trespectively). Similarly, there were no significant differences in the total\n\t\t\t\tcalcium concentrations between these same time periods (2.03 \u00b1 0.18,\n\t\t\t\t2.05 \u00b1 0.20, 2.08 \u00b1 0.23 mmol/l, respectively).\n        \n        \n          Conclusions:\n          In patients receiving infusions of 25% albumin, it appears that\n\t\t\t\tcirculating calcium concentrations are well regulated by homeostatic\n\t\t\t\tmechanisms.
