However, coral reefs are experiencing more frequent and intense stress events leading to coral bleaching. The process of coral bleaching involves a breakdown of the symbiosis between the coral hosts and their endosymbiotic algae, which can lead to starvation and mortality. Here we compile a global coral bleaching database of 33,244 records of the presence or absence of coral bleaching from 1963 - 2021.
