Besides, frequent samples were analyzed for microplastic concentration per cubic meter. The sampled water was pumped from the VO65 hulls scoop inlet at an average depth of 1.5 m for continuous measurements. Zero-calibrations were set to every 24 hours and autonomous span CO2 gas calibration was performed in every harbor after each leg. The observations in Europe were conducted from May to September 2019. The analysis for microplastic particle concentration was conducted according to Tanhua & Gutekunst et al. 2020, PLOS ONE (https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0243203, NCEI Accession 0170967). The team AkzoNobel and its Boats Captain Liz Wardley conducted observations during The Ocean Race European Tour 2019. The observed essential ocean variables linked with microplastic observations is already the second dataset next to the 2017-2018 worldwide microplastic dataset (NCEI Accession 0170967) created.
