The data does not provide information about individuals taking over-night trips. Additionally, this data provides information on peoples' distributed demand for bird watching by their expected willingness to travel for that recreational activity. An augmented euclidean distance was used to distribute the days demanded for bird watching. The model to create this data set did not take into account infrastructure, or geographical features (i.e. roads, cities, recreational destinations, restricted areas etc.). Therefore, recreation demand may be higher or lower in certain areas depending on the proximity of recreation destinations and ease of access. This dataset represents the expected recreation demand and does not provide information on actual bird watching activity. true Entity and Attribute Information Entity and Attribute Overview: This dataset shows distributed days demanded for bird watching. In general terms, the recreation demand for bird watching was determined by creating a kernel density dispersion model using the EnviroAtlas 2011 dasymetric population data. Participation rates per demographic group for bird watching were determined using phone survey data collected by the US Fish and Wildlife Service Fishing, Hunting and Wildlife-Associated Recreation (FHWAR) survey (USFWS, 2011). Willingness to travel by each participant was determined using the National Visitor Use Monitoring (NVUM) program (USDA Forest Services, 2011) which provided information on distance traveled for bird watching day trips. The participation rates were applied to the population data to determine the number of days individuals would participate in bird watching. Those days demanded were then distributed using a probability function of willingness to travel to create the distributed days demanded for bird watching. To represent the results in the EnviroAtlas, the data were summarized by 12-digit HUC.
