Another performance measure in this dataset allows for tracking hospital progress in meeting established HAI reduction goals. Hospitals must have an SIR at or below incremental targets each year to be considered on track. California hospitals should achieve 30% reductions in SSI incidence from 2015 to 2020.\r\n\r\nNHSN calculates the predicted number of infections using procedure-specific risk adjustment logistic regression models based on 2015 national baseline data and that accounts for particular patient-level factors and hospital characteristics found to be significant predictors of SSI incidence. The number of predicted infections generated from these models is used to calculate the SIR, a measure of HAI incidence, by dividing the number of actual observed infections by the number of predicted infections.\r\n\r\nBeginning in 2024, to comply with the California Information Practices Act (Civ. Code \u00a7 1798) and the CDPH Data De-Identification Guidelines (DDG) version 2.0, facilities that performed fewer than 11 pediatric procedures for a specific procedure type or fewer than 11 cesarean sections have had the exact number of procedures, infections, and predicted infections removed. To prevent inferences about the number of low-volume procedures performed in each facility, these procedures are not included in the facility \"All procedures\" count. STATE OF CALIFORNIA POOLED DATA procedure counts are not given if there are fewer than 11 procedures statewide, and the STATE OF CALIFORNIA POOLED DATA may not include procedures in facilities that performed fewer than 11 procedures (labeled \"Does not include procedures at hospitals with fewer than 11 procedures\").\r\n\r\nDetailed information about the variables included in each dataset are described in the accompanying data dictionaries for the year of interest. CDPH calculated an SIR if the predicted number of infections was less than 1 and greater than or equal to 0.2; these SIRs and comparisons are not as precise as SIRs based on a larger number of predicted infections, but provide more hospitals with a published interpretation of their data. For a detailed explanation, please see the Technical Notes. Each hospital's reported procedure and infection counts are displayed along with an SIR, the 95 percent confidence interval for the SIR, and the statistical comparison as follows: \r\n\r\n\u2022 Better - lower or fewer infections than predicted, \r\n \r\n\u2022 Same - no difference in number of observed and predicted infections, or \r\n\r\n\u2022 Worse - higher or more infections than predicted.", "downloadURL": "https://data.chhs.ca.gov/dataset/f243090b-4c05-4c61-b614-7cb49b86b21d/resource/5e5a2aef-fe3e-44ec-a657-8bb7b991ed93/download/ssi-sir-2016-ca-cdph-adult28procssy10232017.csv", "format": "CSV", "mediaType": "text/csv", "title": "SSI in Adult Patients, 2016"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "describedBy": "https://data.ca.gov/api/action/datastore_search?resource_id=87ae6021-7ad1-4e7e-a6e8-ad99f6a0e6c2&limit=0", "describedByType": "application/json", "description": "This table shows the California hospitals that did not perform any of the 28 reportable procedures from January 1 \u2013 December 31, 2023.", "downloadURL": "https://data.chhs.ca.gov/dataset/f243090b-4c05-4c61-b614-7cb49b86b21d/resource/85ac0a29-4a24-4dfc-a6fd-4d4d35e0cc58/download/cdph_ssi_nosurgfac_odp_2023.csv", "format": "CSV", "mediaType": "text/csv", "title": "Hospitals who did not report surgical procedures, 2023"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "describedBy": "https://data.ca.gov/api/action/datastore_search?resource_id=88a1fb70-6e9e-4860-80c3-5c47c4ea5d9a&limit=0", "describedByType": "application/json", "description": "This table shows the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) risk adjusted standardized infection ratios (SIR) for surgical site infections (SSIs) reported by hospitals for 24 operative procedures.\r\n\r\n The procedures with NHSN Standardized Infections Ratios (SIR) are: Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair, Appendix surgery, Bile Duct, Liver or Pancreatic surgery, Cardiac surgery, Coronary artery bypass graft with both chest and donor site incisions, Coronary artery bypass graft with chest incision only, Gallbladder surgery, Colon surgery, Cesarean section, Spinal Fusion, Open reduction of fracture, Gastric surgery, Hip prosthesis, Abdominal hysterectomy, Knee prosthesis, Kidney transplant, Laminectomy, Liver transplant, Rectal surgery, Refusion of spine, Small bowel surgery, Thoracic surgery, Vaginal hysterectomy, Exploratory laparotomy.\r\n\r\nThese data are in reference to original national baseline data collected by NHSN (i.e. Baseline 1).
