Drosophila will be collected from forests during summer months (May to October) by sweep-netting or aspirating over naturally-occurring mushrooms. In some instances, boiled and thus killed commercial mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus) will be set out as baits. In addition, flies may be bred from field-collected mushrooms.\n\nLaboratory maintenance of fly cultures. In the laboratory, the culture medium consists of Instant Drosophila medium (Carolina Biological), a small piece of commercial mushroom, and a dental cotton roll, which serves as a pupation site. Cultures are maintained at 20C, 60%RH, and 14:10 light:dark schedule.", "distribution": [{"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "description": "2018 collections data", "downloadURL": "https://irma.nps.gov/DataStore/DownloadFile/630395?Reference=2267150", "format": "xls", "mediaType": "application/vnd.ms-excel", "title": "ICMS_BioDB_Spreadsheet_20150402_DYER.xls"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "downloadURL": "https://irma.nps.gov/DataStore/DownloadFile/635737?Reference=2267150", "format": "xlsx", "mediaType": "application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet", "title": "1-s2.0-S105579031830424X-mmc6.xlsx"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "downloadURL": "https://irma.nps.gov/DataStore/DownloadFile/635738?Reference=2267150", "format": "xlsx", "mediaType": "application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet", "title": "1-s2.0-S105579031830424X-mmc7.xlsx"}], "identifier": "http://datainventory.doi.gov/id/dataset/NPS_DataStore_2267150", "issued": "2019-10-30T00:00:00Z", "keyword": ["APHN", "Appalachian Highlands Network", "Bullhead Trail", "Cherokee Orchard Rd", "Clingmans Dome Rd", "Ecological Framework: Biological Integrity | Focal Species or Communities | Terrestrial Invertebrates", "GRSM", "Great Smoky Mountains National Park", "Invertebrates", "Newfound Gap Rd", "Rainbow Falls Trail", "SER", "Southeast Region", "StudyID:GRSM-00092", "and Twin Creeks Trail", "drosophila", "flies", "fly"], "landingPage": "https://irma.nps.gov/DataStore/Reference/Profile/2267150", "modified": "2019-10-30T00:00:00Z", "programCode": ["010:118", "010:119"], "publisher": {"@type": "org:Organization", "name": "National Park Service"}, "spatial": "-84.01389,35.4269066,-82.99805,35.8414", "temporal": "2008-01-01/2018-01-01", "theme": ["Generic Dataset"], "title": "The Evolutionary Genetics of Mushroom-feeding Drosophila in Great Smoky Mountains National Park"}
