A total of 141 guano samples were taken from live bats captured (and recaptured) with mist netting techniques (n=123), collected from roosting bats while under observation (n = 12), and salvaged from bat carcasses (n=6). As part of the 141 samples, we incorporated comparable raw guano sequence data generated from 11 bats captured during ecological research conducted on Maui by H.T. Harvey & Associates. Total guano samples obtained by island prior to sequencing efforts and statistical modeling were as follows: Island of Hawai\u2018i (n = 113), Maui (n = 21), O\u2018ahu (n = 2) and Kaua\u2018i (n = 5).This data file includes collection data related to individual bat guano samples, including date and time of night if applicable, location, and sex. The data file also includes categorical values used for modeling analyses of guano dietary contents; reproductive period, land cover category, and elevation. Lastly, the Sequence Read Archive (SRA) accession numbers are listed for each USGS-derived guano sample DNA extraction that was sequenced using genetic metabarcoding techniques. The SRA accession numbers identify raw data files deposited on the NIH-NLM-NCBI Genbank database (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genbank/). BioProject PRJNA1229772, accession numbers SAMN47142406 through SAMN47142727.\nThis dataset is part of a larger study that includes three additional datasets:\n\"Hawaiian Islands, Hawaiian hoary bat guano representative DNA sequences to family level, 2010-2021\", \"Island of Hawaii and Maui, bat diet insect DNA barcode reference library, 2016-2020\", \"Island of Hawaii, genetic identification of caterpillars collected and reared from host plants, 2020\".", "distribution": [{"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5066/P13SRZHU", "description": "Landing page for access to the data", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "application/http", "title": "Digital Data"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "description": "The metadata original format", "downloadURL": "https://data.usgs.gov/datacatalog/metadata/USGS.693937a2d4be023b0aed674b.xml", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "text/xml", "title": "Original Metadata"}], "identifier": "http://datainventory.doi.gov/id/dataset/USGS_693937a2d4be023b0aed674b", "keyword": ["Hawaiian hoary bat", "Island of Hawai\u2018i", "Kaua\u2018i", "Maui", "O\u2018ahu", "USGS:693937a2d4be023b0aed674b", "bats", "biota", "diet", "endangered species", "metabarcoding", "wildlife biology"], "modified": "2026-06-29T00:00:00Z", "publisher": {"@type": "org:Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey"}, "spatial": "-160.3500, 18.8000, -154.6500, 22.6000", "theme": ["geospatial"], "title": "Hawaiian Islands, genetic metabarcoding of Hawaiian hoary bat guano samples, 2010-2021"}
