The Home and Life Interview was a restructured\r\ninterview based on the Home Observation for Measurement of the\r\nEnvironment (HOME) inventory used in Wave 1 (PROJECT ON HUMAN\r\nDEVELOPMENT IN CHICAGO NEIGHBORHOODS (PHDCN): HOME OBSERVATION FOR\r\nMEASUREMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENT, WAVE 1, 1994-1997 [ICPSR 13594]). The\r\nHome and Life Interview, like the HOME inventory, sought to observe\r\nthe developmental environment in which children belonging to the\r\nLongitudinal Cohort Study sample were raised. The Home and Life\r\nInterview was designed to capture the absence or presence of certain\r\ncognitive stimuli, including varied learning experiences and diverse\r\neducational materials. The Home and Life Interview also measured the\r\nextent and nature of the interactions that occurred between the\r\nsubject and his or her primary caregiver. The Wave 3 Home and Life\r\nInterview instrument was a reduced version of the Wave 2 Home and Life\r\nInterview instrument (PROJECT ON HUMAN DEVELOPMENT IN CHICAGO\r\nNEIGHBORHOODS (PHDCN): HOME AND LIFE INTERVIEW, WAVE 2, 1997-2000\r\n[ICPSR 13630]) that does not include an emphasis on evaluating the\r\nrelationship between the subject and the subject's father or, in the\r\nfather's absence, a male father figure.
