It was\r\nanticipated that the risk assessment instrument would be useful in not\r\nonly providing the juvenile court officers with a tool to\r\nappropriately assess the risk of recidivism, but also in providing\r\n\"common ground\" to treatment staff and other relevant officials to\r\ndetermine whether certain interventions worked better with certain\r\nlevels of risk than others, and whether limited resources were being\r\nappropriately utilized in providing appropriate interventions to\r\njuveniles with specific risk scores. To develop the Proposed Iowa\r\nJuvenile Court Intake Risk Assessment, a team of juvenile court\r\nrepresentatives from all eight judicial districts in Iowa, consisting\r\nof juvenile court officers, intake officers, and supervisors, designed\r\na risk assessment test instrument to assess a group of juveniles at\r\nintake during a one-month period between October and November\r\n1994. The follow-up data collection was conducted by chief juvenile\r\ncourt officers eight months after the original data collection. The\r\npurpose of the follow-up was to gather data regarding\r\nreoffending. Risk assessment variables include types and number of\r\ncurrent offenses, prior arrests and adjudication, histories of\r\nsupervision and service, substance use and abuse, runaway occurrences,\r\npeer relationships, gang affiliation, attitude during intake\r\ninterview, level of parental control, schooling status (dropped out,\r\ngraduated, truant), type of current school, discipline problems,\r\nsuspensions at school, current employment, history of family problems,\r\nand reoffending. Demographic variables include offender's sex and\r\nrace.", "distribution": [{"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.3886/ICPSR02632.v1", "title": "Developing a Juvenile Risk Assessment Instrument for Iowa State Evaluation Capacity Building, 1994-1995"}], "identifier": "3717", "issued": "2000-08-28T00:00:00", "keyword": ["criminal histories", "intervention", "juvenile offenders", "recidivism", "risk assessment", "treatment programs", "youths at risk"], "language": ["eng"], "license": "http://www.usa.gov/publicdomain/label/1.0/", "modified": "2005-11-04T00:00:00", "programCode": ["011:060"], "publisher": {"@type": "org:Organization", "name": "National Institute of Justice", "subOrganizationOf": {"acronym": "OJP", "id": 22, "name": "Office of Justice Programs", "parentOrganization": {"acronym": "DOJ", "id": 10, "name": "Department of Justice"}, "parentOrganizationID": 10}}, "title": "Developing a Juvenile Risk Assessment Instrument for Iowa State Evaluation Capacity Building, 1994-1995"}
