This outcome study documented important aspects of\r\nprogram implementation and effectiveness. It included all 141 inmates\r\nadmitted to MICA between October 1997 and March 2000. A control group\r\ncomprised of 66 inmates who were too close to their mandatory release\r\ndates to participate in the program but who were otherwise eligible\r\nwas also included. Data were gathered from Department of Corrections\r\nadministrative records regarding admissions information, assessment\r\nresults, institutional behavior, institutional placement and services\r\nafter program completion or exit, and recidivism. MICA staff provided\r\ninformation on treatment progress, behavior, and mental health\r\nstatus. MICA outreach specialists provided three-month post-release\r\ndata on community outcomes for MICA graduates. Parole agents provided\r\nthree-month post-release data on parole compliance and recidivism for\r\nall study participants.
