This mooring was located approximately 36 miles east of South Ninemile Point, Alpena, Michigan. Vertical temperatures were collected sub-hourly at 21 depths; maximum depth of this mooring location was 220 m. Seabird 39 and 56 models were used for the observations with a temperature accuracy of ±0.002 °C. These temperature data were collected by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (NOAA-GLERL). Temperature measurements collected at high resolution in both time and vertical space are critical to 1) assess inter-annual variability of the thermal structure of the Great Lakes; 2) test three-dimensional model parameterization; 3) understand vertical mixing processes; and 4) to aid in interpreting biological and other environmental data.
