CAL FIRE's Fire and Resource Assessment Program (FRAP)\nannually maintains and distributes an historical fire perimeter dataset from\nacross public and private lands in California. The GIS data is developed with\nthe cooperation of the United States Forest Service Region 5, the Bureau of\nLand Management, the National Park Service and the United States Fish and\nWildlife Service and is released in the spring with added data from the\nprevious calendar year. Although the dataset represents the most complete digital\nrecord of fire perimeters in California, it is still incomplete, and users\nshould be cautious when drawing conclusions based on the data.
\n\nThis app contains three pages of maps and documentation\nof the historical fire perimeter metadata:
\n\nHistorical Fire Perimeters: The landing page\u00a0highlights\nthe recent large fires (\u22655,000 acres) on a backdrop of all of the dataset's\ndocumented fire perimeters dating back to 1878.\u00a0\u00a0This map includes\nperimeters symbolized by decade, county boundaries, California Vegetation, and\nNAIP imagery back to 2005.\u00a0\u00a0This page provides users the ability to\nadd their own data or filter the fire perimeter data.\u00a0\u00a0It cleanly\nlists fire perimeters shown on the map with their name, year, and GIS\ncalculated acreage.\u00a0\u00a0The user can navigate to the CAL FIRE current\nincident webpage or provide comments to the dataset's steward.
\n\nTimes Burned: The second page provides a map showing an\nanalysis performed annually on the fire perimeter dataset to show case burn\nfrequency from 1950 to present for fires greater than one acre.\u00a0
\n\nFire Across Time:\u00a0\u00a0This third page provides a time\nenabled layer of the fire perimeter dataset, featuring a time slider to allow\nusers to view the perimeter dataset across time.
\n\nThe final page provides the user with the dataset's\nmetadata, including its most current data dictionary.
