This study aimed to understand links between fish abundance and dwarf wedgemussel abundance and occurrence in the Connecticut and Delaware watersheds. Specifically, my study objectives were to 1) characterize fish assemblages near dwarf wedgemussel locations and unoccupied locations, 2) determine if dwarf wedgemussel occurrence and abundance are related to abundance of the known host fish species, tessellated darter and other potential host fish species per St. John White et. al. (2017). Two fish repeatedly emerged as indicators of dwarf wedgemussel occurrence and abundance: the tessellated darter (Etheostoma olmstedi) and brown trout (Salmo trutta). Tessellated darter was positively related to dwarf wedgemussel which supports the importance of tessellated darter as a host fish in the wild. The negative relationship between dwarf wedgemussel and brown trout may indicate a difference in habitat between the species or brown trout\u2019s predation upon wild hosts.", "distribution": [{"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5066/P90S15LR", "description": "Landing page for access to the data", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "application/http", "title": "Digital Data"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "description": "The metadata original format", "downloadURL": "https://data.usgs.gov/datacatalog/metadata/USGS.6238c9c4d34e915b67cc4727.xml", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "text/xml", "title": "Original Metadata"}], "identifier": "http://datainventory.doi.gov/id/dataset/USGS_6238c9c4d34e915b67cc4727", "keyword": ["Connecticut", "Massachusetts", "New England", "New Hampshire", "New Jersey", "New York", "USGS-EMA-LOW-SB SMC: Freshwater mussels", "USGS:6238c9c4d34e915b67cc4727", "biota", "dwarf wedgemussel", "environment", "field sampling", "fish", "fish surveys", "tesselated darter", "unionid"], "modified": "2022-03-24T00:00:00Z", "publisher": {"@type": "org:Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey"}, "spatial": "-74.9067, 41.0667, -71.5660, 44.5622", "theme": ["geospatial"], "title": "Fish Surveys within 500-meters of Alasmidonta heterodon in the Connecticut and Delaware Watersheds from 1999 - 2019"}
