Trajectories\r\nthat constitute typical operations are determined and learned\r\nusing data driven methods. Standard procedures are used by air\r\ntraffic controllers (ATC) to guide aircraft, ensure the safety of the\r\nairspace, and to maximize the runway occupancy. Even though\r\nstandard procedures are used by ATC, the control of the aircraft\r\nremains with the pilots, leading to a large variability in the flight\r\npatterns observed. Two methods to identify typical operations\r\nand their variability from recorded radar tracks are presented.\r\nThis knowledge base is then used to monitor the conformance\r\nof current operations against operations previously identified as\r\ntypical. A tool called AirTrajectoryMiner is presented, aiming at\r\nmonitoring the instantaneous health of the airspace, in real time.\r\nThe airspace is \u201chealthy\u201d when all aircraft are flying according\r\nto the typical operations. A measure of complexity is introduced,\r\nmeasuring the conformance of current flight to typical flight\r\npatterns.
