The raster was generated by using a natural neighbors interpolator within a GIS on the empirical data set.  This interpolator was chosen due to the non-normal distribution observed among the data, and its ability to produce smoother approximations than alternative interpolation methods.  During the August 26 survey, 10,577 data points were collected in Patchogue Bay.
