Flood profiles were computed for the stream reach by means of a one-dimensional step-backwater model. The model was calibrated to the current (rating number 42) stage-discharge relation at the U.S. Geological Survey streamgage Cuyahoga River at Independence, Ohio (station number 04208000). The hydraulic model was then used to compute 13 total water-surface profiles for flood stages ranging from 14 to 26 ft. The overall range in stages are from \u201caction stage\u201d to above \u201cmajor flood stage\u201d as reported by the National Weather Service. The simulated water-surface profiles were then used in combination with a geographic information system digital elevation model derived from light detection and ranging data to delineate the areas flooded at each water level.\nThe model produced by this study could be used to assess possible flood mitigation options and define flood hazard areas that could contribute to the protection of life and property. The availability of these maps, along with internet information regarding current stage from the USGS streamgage and forecasted high-flow stages from the National Weather Service, could provide emergency management personnel and residents with information that is critical for flood response activities such as evacuations and road closures, as well as for post-flood recovery efforts.", "distribution": [{"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5066/P9ZFZK0L", "description": "Landing page for access to the data", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "application/http", "title": "Digital Data"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "description": "The metadata original format", "downloadURL": "https://data.usgs.gov/datacatalog/metadata/USGS.651d7003d34e44db0e2d4491.xml", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "text/xml", "title": "Original Metadata"}], "identifier": "http://datainventory.doi.gov/id/dataset/USGS_651d7003d34e44db0e2d4491", "keyword": ["Cuyahoga County", "Cuyahoga River", "Independence", "Ohio", "USGS:651d7003d34e44db0e2d4491", "flood inundation mapping", "hydraulic", "hydrologic prediction", "modeling"], "modified": "2024-12-13T00:00:00Z", "publisher": {"@type": "org:Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey"}, "spatial": "-81.69950, 41.37270, -81.60950, 41.46290", "theme": ["geospatial"], "title": "Geospatial datasets and hydraulic model for flood-inundation maps for the Cuyahoga River in and near the City of Independence, Ohio"}
