Version 2 is based on temperature and salinity observations from the World Ocean Database for years 1955 to 2012, or roughly six decades. The individual decadal fields are a significant upgrade from the previous version of the GINS. Version 2 contains six decadal climatologies from 1955 to 2012 with annual, seasonal, and monthly time resolutions, which can be used to assess ocean climate change over the 1955-2012 time period and can be utilized in other climate-related applications.
