Shorelines were compiled from topographic survey sheets (T-sheets; National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)), aerial orthophotographs (U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Conoco-Philips (CP), British Petroleum Alaska (BPXA), and NOAA), satellite imagery (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and State of Alaska), and lidar elevation data (USGS). Historical shoreline positions serve as easily understood features that can be used to describe the movement of beaches through time. These data are used to calculate rates of shoreline change. Rates of long-term (70 years) and short-term (less than 40 years) shoreline change were generated in a GIS using the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) version 5.1. DSAS uses a measurement baseline method to calculate rate-of-change statistics. Transects are cast from the reference baseline to intersect each shoreline, establishing measurement points used to calculate shoreline change rates.", "distribution": [{"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5066/F72Z13N1", "description": "Landing page for access to the data", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "application/http", "title": "Digital Data"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "description": "The metadata original format", "downloadURL": "https://data.usgs.gov/datacatalog/metadata/USGS.663a5321d34e77890839b050.xml", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "text/xml", "title": "Original Metadata"}], "identifier": "http://datainventory.doi.gov/id/dataset/USGS_663a5321d34e77890839b050", "keyword": ["ANWR", "Arctic", "Arctic National Wildlife Refuge", "Beaufort Sea", "CMHRP", "Canning River", "Coastal and Marine Hazards and Resources Program", "Colville River", "DSAS", "Digital Shoreline Analysis System", "Distributions", "Harrison Bay", "Kuparuk River", "North Slope", "PCMSC", "Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center", "Physical/Chemical Features", "Prudhoe Bay", "Sagavanirktok River", "Shoreline", "Shoreline change", "Staines River", "State of Alaska", "U.S. Geological Survey", "USGS", "USGS:663a5321d34e77890839b050", "United States of America", "coastal processes", "environment", "geoscientificInformation", "geospatial datasets", "oceans", "shoreline accretion", "shoreline erosion"], "modified": "2026-03-26T00:00:00Z", "publisher": {"@type": "org:Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey"}, "spatial": "-150.233107, 69.957632, -144.136160, 70.571973", "theme": ["geospatial"], "title": "Alaska: Central Beaufort Sea Coast (Hulahula River to Colville River) shorelines (1947 to 2017) used to calculate shoreline change rates"}
