The GBCAAS is a complex aquifer system comprised \nof both unconsolidated and bedrock formations covering an area of approximately 110,000 square miles. \nThe aquifer system is situated in the eastern portion of the Great Basin Province of the western \nUnited States. The eastern Great Basin is experiencing rapid population growth and has some of the \nhighest per capita water use in the Nation. These factors, combined with the arid setting, have levied \nintensive demand upon current groundwater resources and, thus, predictions of future shortages. \nBecause of the large regional extent of the aquifer system, rapid growth in the region, and the reliance \nupon groundwater for urban populations, agriculture, and native habitats, the GBCAAS was selected \nby the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Water Resources program as part of the National Water \nCensus Initiative to evaluate the Nation's groundwater availability.\n\t\t\nThese data represent areas within the GBCAAS study area where groundwater discharge may occur \nas a result of evapotranspiration. The data were compiled from previously published groundwater \ndischarge areas in the Great Basin.", "distribution": [{"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5066/P9LJHZLP", "description": "Landing page for access to the data", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "application/http", "title": "Digital Data"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "description": "The metadata original format", "downloadURL": "https://data.usgs.gov/datacatalog/metadata/USGS.4cdbd1d7-9311-428b-ae8c-616411dac24a.xml", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "text/xml", "title": "Original Metadata"}], "identifier": "http://datainventory.doi.gov/id/dataset/USGS_4cdbd1d7-9311-428b-ae8c-616411dac24a", "keyword": ["California", "Evapotranspiration", "Great Basin", "Groundwater discharge", "Hydrographic area", "Idaho", "Nevada", "USGS:4cdbd1d7-9311-428b-ae8c-616411dac24a", "Utah", "geoscientificInformation", "inlandWaters"], "modified": "2020-11-17T00:00:00Z", "publisher": {"@type": "org:Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey"}, "spatial": "-118.355640, 35.461125, -111.526079, 42.348557", "theme": ["geospatial"], "title": "1:1,000,000-scale estimated outer extent of areas of groundwater discharge as evapotranspiration for the Great Basin carbonate and alluvial aquifer system of Nevada, Utah, and parts of adjacent states"}
