At ERL, the growth rates of all the fragments were assessed using buoyant weight. For the UM genotypes, the maximum photosynthetic yield of the algal symbionts (Fv/Fm) was additionally measured. The economic and ecological benefits of coral reefs depend upon maintaining the reef structure through the growth of healthy corals. Coral restoration programs can benefit from information describing the relative performance of different genotypes, including growth rates. This experiment aimed to compare the calcification rates of different genotypes from the ESA-listed species, Acropora cervicornis, used in restoration programs from Florida.
