Nutrients, in all these cases, refers to nitrogen and phosphorus.  Intact core experiments and water column incubation experiments targeted changes in inorganic nitrogen (nitrate and ammonium) and soluble reactive phosphorus.  Core experiments were conducted in oxic and anoxic conditions.  Sediment properties such as elemental composition (nitrogen, phosphorus, carbon content), particle size distribution and bulk density (among others) were measured on sediment used in the incubation experiments, all the adjacent sites.  These sediment properties, if they relate strongly to sediment nutrient flux, can be used to estimate sediment nutrient flux in locations that were not measured directly.", "distribution": [{"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5066/P1357VLN", "description": "Landing page for access to the data", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "application/http", "title": "Digital Data"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "description": "The metadata original format", "downloadURL": "https://data.usgs.gov/datacatalog/metadata/USGS.69d80a31b66b018f738f32e9.xml", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "text/xml", "title": "Original Metadata"}], "identifier": "http://datainventory.doi.gov/id/dataset/USGS_69d80a31b66b018f738f32e9", "keyword": ["Great Lakes", "Lake Erie", "Lower Maumee", "USGS:69d80a31b66b018f738f32e9", "Western Lake Erie", "algal blooms", "aquatic biology", "biogeochemistry", "biota", "environment", "nitrogen", "nutrient cycling", "phosphorus", "sediments", "water quality", "water resources"], "modified": "2026-07-09T00:00:00Z", "publisher": {"@type": "org:Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey"}, "spatial": "-83.7570, 41.4777, -83.2681, 41.8471", "theme": ["geospatial"], "title": "Experimental and observational data on sediment nutrient dynamics in the Maumee River mouth and surrounding nearshore areas (2022 and 2024)"}
