The CIMC web service provides access to the mapping component of the CIMC web application. The Cleanups in My Community (CIMC) web service contains the following map layers: Incidents of National Significance (from the epa.gov website) – with links to the relevant web pages, Superfund NPL sites (propose, final and deleted)(from SEMS) – with links to the cleanup profiles, RCRA Corrective Action Sites (by various cleanup categories)(2020 baseline facilities only, not all RCRA sites because RCRA sites that are not corrective action are not cleanups)(from RCRAInfo) – with links to the cleanup profiles, Brownfields Properties (by grant type)(from ACRES) – with links to the cleanup profiles, Brownfields Grant jurisdictions (polygons)(from ACRES) – with links to the grant information, Federal facilities that are also Superfund or RCRA CA sites and BRAC (from the epa.gov page for federal facilities), Recovery Act locations (for Superfund and Brownfields only) (from SEMS and ACRES), Emergency removals (from EPAOSC.net). Location information for EPA data provided via the CIMC web service are collected using many techniques. The processes used to collect location information for each type of data are as follows: Incidents of National Significance are derived from the official epa.gov web pages for each incident. Locations are collected for each incident individually, and may have varying accuracy. In the case where the original EPA pages did not provide a lat/long, a coordinate was placed manually based on the description provided about the site. Location information for Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) data are initially entered by the regulated facility. Location information for Brownfields data are originally entered by the Brownfields grantee. Location information for Superfund data are initially entered by the remedial project manager for each superfund site. Location information for Emergency Responses are initially entered by the On Scene Coordinator for each response. After initial data entry using the methods described above, locations are verified using a detailed process called the Facility Registry System (FRS) "Best Pick" Process. This process uses a number of routines and algorithms to validate location data for each site and to select the best location. Information shown on the CIMC maps (including the latitudes and longitudes) and listed in the lists of sites, originates with the Superfund Public Use Database (SPUD), but goes through additional Quality Control in EPA's Facility Registry System to: Ensure the latitudes and longitudes are within the proper ranges based on the county, state and other geographic identifiers provided for the site, and that the coordinates we use are supported by the best metadata we have available, and integrate the data from the Superfund Public Use Database (SPUD) with data about the same sites from other EPA programs. We are continually in the process of improving this information, such as latitude and longitude information, which may not have method, accuracy and description information.
