Ground water in approximately\n400 square miles of Quaternary-age alluvial and terrace aquifer\nis an important source of water for irrigation, industrial,\nmunicipal, stock, and domestic supplies. The aquifer consists\nof clay, silt, sand, and gravel. Sand-sized sediments dominate\nthe poorly sorted, fine to coarse, unconsolidated quartz grains\nin the aquifer. The hydraulically connected alluvial and terrace\ndeposits unconformably overlie Permian-age formations. The\naquifer is overlain by a layer of wind-blown sand in parts of\nthe area.\n\t\t\nA uniform hydraulic-conductivity value of 38.9 feet per day was\nused as input to the ground-water flow model for the aquifer and\nis used in this data set.\n\t\t\nThe features representing boundaries along geological contacts\nwere extracted from published digital surficial geology data\nsets based on a scale of 1:250,000. The northwest and southeast\ngeographic limits of the aquifer and were digitized from a\nfolded paper map in a ground-water modeling report, at a scale\nof 1:250,000\n\t\t\nGround-water flow models are numerical representations that\nsimplify and aggregate natural systems. Models are not unique;\ndifferent combinations of aquifer characteristics may produce\nsimilar results.
