This dataset was produced by the US EPA to support research and online mapping activities related to EnviroAtlas. (U.S. Energy Information Administration, Form EIA-860, 'Annual Electric Generator Report' and Form EIA-860M, 'Monthly Update to the Annual Electric Generator Report.'). The EIA December 2016 data file provided currently in operation plants locations, the type of energy source, and a capacity factor for energy generation in megawatts (MW). Capacity from facilities with a total generator nameplate capacity less than 1 MW are excluded from this report. This exclusion may represent a significant portion of capacity for some technologies such as solar photovoltaic generation. The average gallon per MWh per fuel type was used to calculate total water withdrawal and consumption amounts for each plant. The fuel types include Coal, Nuclear, Natural Gas, Oil, Solar Energy, Biomass, and Geothermal.
