Reference burned area was mapped for six Sentinel-2 tiles distributed across the southeastern U.S. including within Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, and Virginia. Within each tile reference data were generated from three image pairs (n=18), where burned area was identified as present in a post-image but absent in a pre-image. The imagery in each pair was acquired between 2017 and 2021. The burned area was mapped using a semi-automated algorithm in Google Earth Engine, then manually edited to maximize the reference data accuracy.", "distribution": [{"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5066/P13AELGB", "description": "Landing page for access to the data", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "application/http", "title": "Digital Data"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "description": "The metadata original format", "downloadURL": "https://data.usgs.gov/datacatalog/metadata/USGS.6a176444b66b01122d755bc7.xml", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "text/xml", "title": "Original Metadata"}], "identifier": "http://datainventory.doi.gov/id/dataset/USGS_6a176444b66b01122d755bc7", "keyword": ["Alabama", "Arkansas", "Florida", "Sentinel-2", "Southeast", "Texas", "USGS:6a176444b66b01122d755bc7", "United States", "Virginia", "burned area", "reference data", "validation", "wildland fire"], "modified": "2026-07-27T00:00:00Z", "publisher": {"@type": "org:Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey"}, "spatial": "99.0002531, 26.1276570, 78.6443025, 37.9234209", "theme": ["geospatial"], "title": "Sentinel-2 burned area reference data across the southeastern United States"}
