In particular, production capacity can limit future supply, depending on how rapidly that capacity is able to expand. Current capacity can be evaluated on the basis of producing sites. Decreases to future capacity can be taken into account from announcements of planned shutdowns of mines or processing facilities, which are frequently publicized well in advance of such closures. Likewise, capacity expansions, which usually involve multiple stages\u2014such as permitting, financing, and construction (all of which take time)\u2014can also be estimated. As such, it is possible to evaluate midterm future capacity based on estimates of today\u2019s capacities along with consideration of future plans. This World Minerals Outlook data release provides estimated capacities for cobalt, gallium, helium, lithium, magnesium, palladium, platinum, and titanium for 2024 through 2029. Production data from 2018 to 2024 are also provided and show the current and historical capacity utilization levels for these commodities.", "distribution": [{"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5066/P1HTTCWN", "description": "Landing page for access to the data", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "application/http", "title": "Digital Data"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "description": "The metadata original format", "downloadURL": "https://data.usgs.gov/datacatalog/metadata/USGS.67b8b168d34e1a2e835b7e6c.xml", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "text/xml", "title": "Original Metadata"}], "identifier": "http://datainventory.doi.gov/id/dataset/USGS_67b8b168d34e1a2e835b7e6c", "keyword": ["USGS:67b8b168d34e1a2e835b7e6c", "capacity utilization", "critical minerals", "future production capacity", "metallic mineral resources", "mineral commodity", "mining and quarrying", "mining and refining", "nonmetallic mineral resources", "production capacity", "world minerals outlook"], "modified": "2025-03-11T00:00:00Z", "publisher": {"@type": "org:Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey"}, "spatial": "-180.0000, -90.0000, 180.0000, 90.0000", "theme": ["geospatial"], "title": "World minerals outlook to 2029\u2014Cobalt, gallium, helium, lithium, magnesium, palladium, platinum, and titanium data"}
