For ecosystems such as the northern Upper Mississippi River (UMR) floodplain, research on tree age dynamics remains limited, especially using dendrochronological methods. Here, we present a dataset including tree age, size, and annual ring width data in support of a study detailed in the manuscript titled \"Stand Age Dynamics of Silver Maple Dominated Floodplain Forests of the Upper Mississippi River \" (Voth Rurup et al. in review). We analyzed forest age using increment cores from 850 overstory trees across 13 sites in the northern UMR, focusing on seven key species within silver maple (Acer saccharinum L.) dominated forest stands. A total of 14 tree species were sampled. Tree age at breast height was estimated using crossdating and pith offset methods. The dataset includes annual ring-width data for trees that were not included in the age dataset because this ring-width data was used to support crossdating of aged trees. Additionally, specimens in good condition that could not be considered fully crossdated due to low sample size, severe suppression, or other wood irregularities were retained in the age dataset. Annual ring-width data for silver maple trees sampled in this project are available in a separate data release (Trumper et al. in review).
