Background information obtained\r\nabout the participating offenders includes sex, race, age, education,\r\nmarital status, and employment status, as well as history of drug use,\r\nprevious drug treatment, mental illness, inpatient/outpatient\r\nepisodes, and offenses and sentencing. Additional data cover program\r\nlocation, dates of release from the program and from jail, type of\r\nprogram termination, type of residence upon release, and anticipated\r\npost-custody treatment. Information on each conviction/disposition was\r\nobtained through state criminal information systems, and state-level\r\ncriminal history data (rap sheets) were collected for both the\r\ntreatment and comparison groups.
