Included in this release are an updated inventory spreadsheet containing programmatic metadata related to programs monitoring water quality, habitat, mapping, and living marine resources across the Gulf of America (formerly Gulf of Mexico) and developed using the COMARI Framework. A geodatabase containing two shapefiles (1 polygon shapefile and 1 point shapefile) representing the footprints and site locations of monitoring programs contained in the monitoring program inventory. Two datasets are provided and distributed as one compiled package. The continuation of the RESTORE Council Monitoring and Assessment Program (CMAP) leverages existing collaborations with regional research, restoration, and monitoring partners and the public in the planning, design, and implementation of integrated, collaborative conservation actions that will contribute to the restoration of the Gulf of America (formerly Gulf of Mexico) ecosystem. The original project (completed in 2019 and updated in 2021) was designed and funded to inventory and integrate existing monitoring efforts, improve discovery and accessibility of existing monitoring data, and ensure the collected information supports management decisions. The original CMAP product’s versatility and ease of use resulted in requests for the expansion of program types to include living marine resources (LMR – marine mammals, sea turtles, birds, fish, and invertebrates) monitoring programs. With broader applications in mind, the Coastal Observations, Monitoring, and Assessment Resource Inventory (COMARI) framework was designed to expand the utility of the inventory developed for CMAP and adaptability for a variety of monitoring program data and geographic scales.
