Video were collected using the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Deep Discover (D2) deployed from the NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer. The purpose of this guide is to aid onboard scientists in animal identification, as well as for public interest. It provides the location, depth, and identity of the observed seafloor animals and is organized into major taxonomic groups. Animal identifications were made with assistance from national and international taxonomic experts who specialize in deep water animals. The guide can be accessed through the NOAA Ocean Exploration web site (https://oceanexplorer.noaa.gov/data/animal-guide/). The purpose of this guide is to aid onboard scientists in animal identification, as well as for public interest. The guide is organized according to major taxa and identifications were made with assistance from taxonomic experts. Version 4 of the guide is enhanced by development of a web application that generates web pages dynamically, through use of an underlying queryable Oracle database table and REST service. Taxonomic classification follows the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) system and will be updated quarterly.
