The Des Moines River alluvial aquifer (DMRA) is an important source of\nwater for Des Moines Water Works (DMWW), the municipal water utility that serves residential\nand commercial water needs in the city of Des Moines, Iowa and surrounding municipalities. A\ncomprehensive understanding of groundwater flow processes in the DMRA is needed for DMWW\nto make decisions related to the management of this water resource. A three-layered model was\nconstructed using MODFLOW-NWT to simulate an area of about 15 square kilometers near \nProspect Park in Des Moines, Iowa. The model has 130 rows and 130 columns of cells within the\nmodel boundary. Parameter ESTimation software (PEST) was used for model calibration to assess\nand optimize performance of individual parameters including the horizontal and vertical hydraulic \nconductivity of the various units, evapotranspiration rate, and recharge rate. This USGS data release\ncontains all the input and output files for the simulations described in the associated model \ndocumentation report (https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr20211110).", "distribution": [{"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5066/P9F3CKLC", "description": "Landing page for access to the data", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "application/http", "title": "Digital Data"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "description": "The metadata original format", "downloadURL": "https://data.usgs.gov/datacatalog/metadata/USGS.8d387863-bc59-4d57-99fb-86f78d15518d.xml", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "text/xml", "title": "Original Metadata"}], "identifier": "http://datainventory.doi.gov/id/dataset/USGS_8d387863-bc59-4d57-99fb-86f78d15518d", "keyword": ["Des Moines", "Des Moines River alluvial aquifer", "Groundwater", "Groundwater Model", "InlandWaters", "Iowa", "MODFLOW-NWT", "PEST", "Polk County", "USGS:8d387863-bc59-4d57-99fb-86f78d15518d", "alluvial", "environment", "geoscientificInformation", "inlandWaters", "surficial", "usgsgroundwatermodel"], "modified": "2022-01-04T00:00:00Z", "publisher": {"@type": "org:Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey"}, "spatial": "-93.656841, 41.609238, -93.609681, 41.644623", "theme": ["geospatial"], "title": "MODFLOW-NWT model used to simulate groundwater levels in the Des Moines River alluvial aquifer near Des Moines, Iowa"}
