Unit hydrographs of evolving urban watersheds across the United States

Metadata Updated: November 13, 2025

The study investigated the impact of changes in land cover and climate on stormflow of evolving six urban watersheds across the United States by applying the unit hydrograph method. The dataset contains land cover, climate, unit hydrograph and its characteristics (peak and time to peak) data from 1985 to 2019 and watershed boundary shapefiles. The changes in year-to-year and long-term unit hydrograph characteristics were associated with changes in land cover and climate. Overall, increasing peak trends and decreasing in time to peak trends were observed, suggesting larger and faster stormflow driven by both land cover and climate change across the evolving urban watersheds. The long-term trends in unit hydrograph characteristics could be useful for projecting future stormflows and implementing flood mitigation to minimize losses.
