    • The Evidence Project Kenya: Integrated Family Planning for Women with HIV

    This implementation research study led by the Evidence Project, offers evidence of the feasibility, quality of care, and acceptability of using community health volunteers (CHV) to integrate family planning into HIV/AIDS services for women living with HIV at the community level in Busia County, Kenya. The primary objectives of the study were to assess: (i) whether training CHVs to integrate FP counseling in existing community-level HIV services increases FP use among HIV-positive women (ii) whether training of community health committees (CHCs) in business skills and income generation increases the retention of CHVs and provision of quality health services; and (iii) the differences in FP use across intervention arms, relative to the comparison arm. Quantitative data were collected and include: (1) observations of CHV-client interactions; (2) interviews with CHVs on training and service provision; (3) interviews with health facility-based providers; (4) interviews with CHCs to assess the Community Unit readiness; and (5) interviews with women living with HIV.
