Data consists of 1) EPA measured fuel economy, in terms of miles per gallon (MPG) or miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe), were obtained from fueleconomy.gov for vehicle model years 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2017, and 2) New Vehicle Experience Survey (NVES) data for calendar years 2014, 2015, and 2016. The survey data is confidential business information (CBI). These data were matched at the make-model level of specificity.

The data includes over 800,000 survey responses regarding consumer characteristics, vehicle attributes, consumer satisfaction, and the consumer purchase process plus fuel economy information for purchased and considered vehicles. This dataset is not publicly accessible because: EPA cannot release CBI, or data protected by copyright, patent, or otherwise subject to trade secret restrictions.
