PacIOOS Nearshore Sensor 002: Hawaii Yacht Club, Oahu, Hawaii

Metadata Updated: January 27, 2025

The nearshore sensors are part of the Pacific Islands Ocean Observing System (PacIOOS) and are designed to measure a variety of ocean parameters at fixed points. nss_002 is located at a floating dock off of the Hawaii Yacht Club at Ala Wai Harbor by the mouth of the Ala Wai Canal near Waikiki on the South Shore of Oahu in the State of Hawaii. The sensor package is fixed to the floating dock just below the ocean surface at about 0.5 meter depth. PacIOOS nearshore sensors monitor coastal water conditions to help provide early indications of potentially polluted run-off from storm drainage, sewage spills, and soil erosion from land-based waterways such as streams and other outflows that lead directly into the ocean.

Lineage 2008-07-29T00:19:15Z UH/SOEST/PacIOOS (M.A. McManus) asset deployed. 2016-01-08T22:00:00Z Science variables duplicated into processed and raw copies to accommodate future delayed-mode reprocessing, if any. 2022-03-23T20:11:00Z Data migrated and new ingest and processing code developed. Data reprocessed to incorporate QARTOD real-time quality control flags, delayed-mode quality descriptor flags, and latest IOOS standards. Dataset identifier modified and consolidated from "nss02_agg" (ERDDAP) and "NS02agg" (TDS) to "NSS-002". 2022-10-31T19:34:00Z Dataset identifier modified from "NSS-002" to "nss_002" to satisfy future ERDDAP requirements. 2023-08-22T03:26:00Z Dataset reprocessed after a small subset of measurements in Dec 2015 (and possibly elsewhere) had been attributed to the wrong variables due to column mismatches in the raw data.
