Drag Reduction and Flight Control Using Off-Body Energy Deposition

Research augments work in progress under ARMD Advanced Air Vehicle Program, (CST/HiFAV). Existing LaRC 20"SWT wind tunnel model (M=2.5) will be adapted for energy deposition for drag reduction demonstration. Unique diagnostic technique to be attempted in which transient response to a single energy deposition pulse is measured and compared to companion Navier-Stokes, time-resolved CFD. Input energy measurement and measured/computed transient response allows determination of electrical-to-thermal conversion efficiency.
