The CCSS project aims to strengthen civil society in Cambodia, and one point of focus is increasing the inclusion of and responsiveness to citizen clients and constituents as an essential part of the civil society ecosystem. To support this effort, the project includes a public opinion poll that explores the Cambodian public’s awareness of and attitude toward CSOs.
Respondents were asked about their willingness to donate time and money to CSOs, whether they would ask CSOs engaged in advocacy for help if they needed it, their perception of CSO effectiveness, what they believe drives the agendas of CSOs, and other issues reflecting their attitude toward CSOs.
The survey results serve as a barometer of public support for Cambodian CSOs, a crucial element of the enabling environment. CCSS will run the survey three times, at the beginning, middle and end of the project. This report shares the results of the first. This will allow CSOs to benefit from awareness of changes in the public’s opinions, which is especially relevant to the communication and outreach strategies of NGOs and other groups. It also provides CCSS and USAID an opportunity to see how strategic adjustments by CSOs are subsequently reflected in public opinion.
