AFSC/RACE/FBEP/Laurel: The effects of temperature on growth, development and settlement of northern rock sole larvae (Lepidopsetta polyxystra)

Metadata Updated: April 1, 2024

This dataset is from an experiment where northern rock sole larvae were reared in the laboratory to measure growth, condition, development and settlement parameters across four temperatures (2, 4, 7 and 10C).

Lineage Adult northern rock sole were collected in Chiniak Bay, Kodiak, AK during late August in 2009 and transported to the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, OR and maintained as broodstock. They were artificially spawned in 2011 and fertilized eggs were maintained in incubation containers. After hatching, yolk-sac larvae were distributed evenly across a series of upwelling tanks for growth experiments. Larvae were sampled for morphometric and dry weight measurements at 0, 7 and 14 days post hatch. After sampling for growth ceased, larvae were maintained at their rearing temperatures to observe the onset and rate of settlement.
