Lineage A BD Biosciences Influx flow cytometer (BD Biosciences, San Jose, CA) was used to analyze each larva. The proportion of nuclei in the S, and G2/M phases was calculated for each larva with MultiCycle AV software, vers. 4.0 (Phoenix Flow Systems, San Diego, CA). FCS Express flow cytometry analysis software, vers. 3.0 (De Novo Software, Los Angeles, CA) was used to calculate the ratio of the number S phase nuclei to the number of G1 phase nuclei with high nRNA content. A detailed description of the analyses is given in Porter and Bailey 2013.
