AFSC/ABL: Electronic archival tag returns for sablefish, shortspine thornyhead (SST), Greenland turbots, spiny dogfish, and ling cod

Metadata Updated: June 1, 2025

Conventional spaghetti tags have been implanted on juvenile sablefish in Southeast Alaska, primarily in Saint John Baptist Bay, near Sitka for over 25 years. These releases have been recovered in the fishery and surveys throughout Alaska over time and provide insight into movement patterns of sablefish throughout their life history. Number of releases per year has ranged from 30 to over 2,000 depending on annual abundance and effort. Non-standardized catch-per-unit effort is recorded in most years.
