United States Plugged Orphaned Oil and Gas Well Dataset
The United States Plugged Orphaned Oil and Gas Well dataset contains 11,409 plugged orphaned wells as submitted by recipients (including Federal entities, states, and Federally recognized Tribes) of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) funding for the Orphaned Wells Program. This data set reflects data reporting submissions received through January 31, 2026.
This dataset includes the unique American Petroleum Institute (API) number or other well identification number; well name; well type; latitude and longitude; funding recipient; funding type; and well plugging witness date. All data is “as reported” by the funding recipients.
