The vector polygon dataset AKR_BND_WILDERNESS_PY_PUBLIC represents the current gross extent of Congressionally-designated wilderness for the National Park Service, Alaska Region. The Congressionally-designated wilderness boundaries defined in this dataset are external wilderness unit boundaries. They do not exclude lands (e.g. inholdings) that fail to meet the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA) definition for "public lands" (i.e. Public Law 96-487, 94 Statute 2371, Title I, Section 102(3 A-C), December 1980). The vector polygon dataset AKR_BND_NON-DESIGNATED_WILDERNESS_PY_PUBLIC represents the eligible and ineligible wilderness areas for the National Park Service, Alaska Region (NPS Alaska) based on General Management Plan (GMP) wilderness eligibility review determinations, GMP amendment documents (as applicable), and current NPS Alaska boundary and land status information. The vector polygon dataset AKR_BND_LIMITED_NON-NPS_LAND_INTEREST_PY_PUBLIC represents land tracts that for wilderness purposes the National Park Service, Alaska Region have limited or no land ownership interests.
